So argues Sheldon Richman in this column. While he tries to sound like a “friend of the little guy” populist sometimes, Obama is most concerned about protecting the big corporations that back him.
Now, it is certainly possible that Obama does not really like those corporations (or any others). Maybe he takes the actions he does just because he “needs to.” Conservatives often say something like that with respect to Republicans who cave in and advance statist policies like trade protectionism. Supposedly they don’t really support it, but they “need to” if they want to win.
We can’t know what is in a person’s mind. The best we can do is to judge people by their actions. Obama acts like a corporatist, as do lots of Republicans.
