Folks are getting a chuckle out of Barack Obama’s sweeping declaration, that “If we can rebuild Baghdad, we can rebuild Charlotte” yesterday in front the GovCenter. But actually it makes perfect sense considering the actions and intentions of local government leaders.
About half of all CMS students get free or reduced lunch, Mecklenburg County has a staggering number of residents on one form of welfare or another, and the city of Charlotte is busy speculating in the commercial real estate market in hopes of “revitalizing” targeted sections of the city. All of these indicate that someone thinks that Charlotte is an economic basket-case.
Obama will fix it, he can fix anything. Say, did anyone ask him what to do with Eastland Mall?
