Rhino Times reports former President Barak Obama is being awarded the “Alston/Jones International Civil and Human Rights Award” at this year’s International Civil Rights Center and Museum gala in Greensboro. This year’s gala marks the 60th anniversary of the historic sit-ins at the downtown Woolworth’s that was a major spark in the civil rights movement of the 1960s.
The award is named for the museum’s founders–Guilford County Commissioner Skip Alston and former Greensboro City Council member Earl Jones. Quite an honor for the former president, if I do say so. The question is–will Obama show up? As it stands now, the museum is “awaiting response” from the Obama team.
