Yesterday marked healthcare.gov’s one year anniversary, and the Obama administration reports that roughly 7 million individuals now have some type of federally approved health insurance – whether it be private coverage through the health insurance exchanges or Medicaid. (Note this figure was scaled down from 8 million due to individuals not paying their premiums, among other reasons). For more info, you can read Michael Tanner’s report card of the federal health law here.

In North Carolina and all across the nation, non group consumers may now be enjoying discounted health insurance plans. However, more are paying substantially higher premiums along with an increase in out of pocket costs. Insurers are also expecting premium increases between 30-60% in the coming years.

There may be a net increase of those insured at this point, but Obamacare’s implementation is costing the nation a fortune –adding $2 trillion to the national debt in its first two decades to reduce the number of uninsured by half.
