I really have to wonder if Obama supporter Cone actually read Tax Policy blog’s refutation of myths surrounding Obama’s tax policy, considering the author’s conclusion:

….Obama’s tax plan is terrible. Even if you wanted to make the tax code more progressive as Obama’s main goal is, you could do it in a much better way than Obama has done (in a way that actually improves the tax code). Obama’s tax plan is basically to raise taxes on the rich to spend money on the poor, yet call that spending “tax cuts.”

I’m not an economist, but I read the post carefully and I don’t see where the “bogus” e-mails horribly misrepresent Obama’s plan. The fact that Obama’s partially restored estate tax is “lower than pre-Bush tax cuts, yet significantly higher than 2010 scheduled law ($0)” doesn’t make me feel any better. And while he might not have indicated support for gas tax hike, what effect does he think a windfall profits tax on oil companies will have on gas prices?

Lastly, say Rep. John Dingell’s proposal that would cap the mortgage interest deduction for large houses for environmental purposes reaches President Obama’s desk. Anyone think he’d veto it?
