It?s been a while since I have injected the required bit of comic book/graphic novel lore into The Locker Room or other JLF web offerings, so today?s reference is overdue.

It?s also rather cool. My longtime friend and former JLF speaker, Karl Zinsmeister, is the writer for a new Marvel Comics graphic-novel serial called Combat Zone: True Tales of GIs in Iraq. Zinsmeister is the editor of The American Enterprise, the magazine of AEI, and has spent a couple of tours in Iraq as an embedded journalist. The new Marvel Comics product looks interesting. I haven?t read it yet, but the folks at the Fayetteville Observer have and ? unsurprising, given the role of the 82nd Airborne in the story ? are giving it good coverage. Reviewers for the Wall Street Journal and Comic Book Pundit seem to dig it.

As JLF stocks its new library space, I?m thinking this particular Marvel subscription might well be justified, if not others. . .
