Just over three weeks before a contentious election comes news of a lawsuit against Alamance County Sheriff Terry Johnson. Check out the details:

In a civil suit filed in Alamance and Guilford counties, Barry Thomas Owen Jr. accuses Johnson of traveling to the Guilford County jail on Nov. 30, 2008, and punching Owen in the face while he was handcuffed and waiting to be formally charged. The suit claims Johnson was given unauthorized access to the prisoners’ holding area.

….The suit was filed Oct. 11 by Durham attorney Thomas E. Davis, and also names various Alamance County deputies, Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes, Guilford County deputies, Guilford County, the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office’s insurance company and the plaintiff’s estranged wife, Amanda K. Owen.

It will be interesting to see if the N&R picks up on this, given that Guilford County is involved. Barnes is running his own race for reelection, but it’s pretty much been under the radar.
