The big economic development news of the day, from the UPoR via the Raleigh News & Observer:

Google on Friday announced a $600 million expansion of its Lenoir data center, a development state and local officials trumpeted as proof of North Carolina’s attractiveness to high-tech companies.

To translate: A Google “data center” is what the rest of us call a server farm. And being big in server farms in no way demonstrates North Carolina’s attractiveness to high-tech companies. In fact, just the opposite is true. If the state were really a hot-bed of high-tech firms, they wouldn’t be making obviously silly claims like this.
