George’s post on the “hostile environment” created by the SMU “affirmative action” bake sale is right on the money. His statement that “On many campuses, the thought police are extremely sensitive to any speech or conduct that is annoying to anyone who is a ‘protected class'” is the subject of last week’s Clarion Call, which ties the SMU problem in with Rush Limbaugh’s comments on ESPN and events at Duke and UNC-CH. Look for the hot link on “protected class” that points to an NC State web page.

Incidentally, a couple of years ago I encountered a similar bake sale at NC State, this one put on by female students affiliated with NOW. Their bake sale had different prices for brownies for men and women in order to publicize the “wage gap.” I bought a brownie (it was dry) for the heck of it and made a comment in support of feminists baking brownies, which was strangely not well appreciated.
