A newspaper of no small importance is once again having problems getting information about unfunded liabilities on their web site. Yesterday’s print edition of the Asheville Citizen-Times published commentary from John Boyle about unfunded liabilities and the imminent bankruptcies government bodies will face if they fail to pay attention to the math. Oddly enough, the evil and irresponsible City of Asheville has taken precautions to protect against this. I don’t know about other local governments.

Boyle is a friend of a friend, but he is also an accomplished actuary who is trying to spread the word before it becomes even more too late. I don’t want to cry conspiracy just yet. I realize math is considered dry, and humanity has a reputation for “killing the messenger,” “stoning the prophet,” etc. when the mathematical modeling does not bode well.
