James O’Keefe’s organization, Project Veritas, has uncovered campaign workers in Mecklenburg County encouraging an undercover reporter posing as an illegal immigrant from Brazil to vote.

The worker tells campaign workers – not local or state elections officials – that she has a driver’s license and is registered to vote, but is undocumented.

“Yeah, you can vote,” one of the campaign workers tells her.

O’Keefe was in Raleigh Thursday morning to release the video to the press. He said that his organization has also done similar projects in Wake and Durham counties and expects to release a video on that investigation early next week.

O’Keefe, noting that is against the law for non-citizens to vote in North Carolina, said that it was his job to expose the potential fraud efforts and not to push for prosecution. Decisions on prosecutions would be left to the people of North Carolina, he said.

He noted that previous videos had resulted in reforms, either through changes in laws, or changes in policies. He hopes that the North Carolina video will bring about similar changes.

“That’s the power of the truth,” O’Keefe said.
