The City of Asheville won an economic development award from the International Economic Development Council. Fortunately, the city received no remuneration, only recognition for its MapAsheville! software. MapAsheville! is an online service that allows citizens to locate crime hotspots and major development projects, and provides GIS services for city staff. IEDC is an organization located in the US, but with members “across the United States, as well as Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and other nations.” It seeks to recognize professionals in the field of economic development. A non-profit organization, it promotes among its goals, wealth creation, diversity, and advancement of the economic development profession.
