This morning, I was reminiscing about a couple organizations that were trying to figure out ways to do things. In one instance, a proprietor wanted revenues from his business to fund unrelated research. Another organization that received 501(c)(3) funding wanted to support a political candidate. Such things are not kosher, and so the two groups sought ways to work around the laws to do what they wanted anyway.

In light of that, we return to the story of Alaska Presley trying to put up the largest cross in the Western Hemisphere. Leaders in the Town of Maggie Valley said she could not do so because of state ridgeline regulations. Presley then said she wanted the cross to double as a cell tower because cell towers are exempt from state ridgeline regulations. The Maggie Valley aldermen then proposed a moratorium on building big crosses to buy time to draft local ordinances to prohibit the cross. Now, Presley has, with no mention of the cross, applied for a cell tower permit. Stay tuned . . .
