Broadcast audiences from Charlotte to the coast had a chance to hear John Locke Foundation experts comment this week on important state and local issues. President John Hood joined Scott Fitzgerald on the WPTF Radio morning show Thursday to discuss the State Board of Elections’ pending investigation of former Gov. Mike Easley’s campaign finances. Fitzgerald also interviewed Lindalyn Kakadelis of the N.C. Education Alliance about school board elections and test scores for lower-income students. (Speaking of education issues, the Selma News recently picked up NCEA Fellow Kristen Blair‘s Carolina Beat column on educational achievement gaps.) Meck Deck blogger Jeff Taylor offered insight this week to WBT Radio’s Pete Kaliner. They discussed the Charlotte mayor’s race, the Queen City’s streetcar debate, the fate of Eastland mall, and the Carolina Panthers’ quarterback struggles. Meanwhile, JLF communications director Mitch Kokai contributed to a WNCN Television story about Gov. Beverly Perdue’s new executive order banning executive branch employees from taking gifts from private contractors. JLF Vice President for Outreach Becki Gray joined Curtis Wright on Wilmington’s WLTT Radio to promote the latest meeting of the Southeastern Freedom Club. Further up the coast, WTKF Radio’s Lockwood Phillips welcomed Legal and Regulatory Policy Analyst Daren Bakst for a discussion of plans to pursue a wind power operation in the Pamlico Sound.
