This week’s tax filing deadline prompted Tea Party groups across North Carolina to reprise their annual tax day rallies. John Locke Foundation Vice President for Outreach Becki Gray delivered remarks and handed out JLF material at rallies in Greensboro, Raleigh, and Wilmington. Executive Vice President Kory Swanson spoke to Moore County’s Tea Party group. Director of Communications Mitch Kokai addressed the Coastal Carolina Taxpayers Association in New Bern. In addition to Tea Party appearances, Gray and other panelists discussed North Carolina’s primary elections during N.C. Spin’s 700th episode celebration. N.C. History Project Director Troy Kickler taught college students at an Intercollegiate Studies Institute conference about the political principles of freedom. Kickler also discussed the importance of the Anti-Federalists during a lecture and discussion with a Duke University political science class. Carolina Journal Managing Editor Rick Henderson discussed water policy during a presentation for a Campbell University Law School class. A letter in the Statesville Record & Landmark promoted JLF Director of Education Studies Terry Stoops‘ upcoming appearance in a May 2 education forum in Mooresville. In addition to public appearances, JLF experts earned media airtime this week. Henderson chatted with Pete Kaliner of WWNC Radio about Chapel Hill’s new cell phone ban for drivers. Director of Fiscal Policy Studies Fergus Hodgson discussed taxation with Bobby DeMuro on WBT Radio. Gray previewed the week’s top state government news during a Monday appearance on WTSB Radio, and she’ll offer that station’s listeners a recap this afternoon of the week’s major developments. Kokai discussed the Democratic Party’s sexual harassment scandal and the Democratic gubernatorial contest during his latest appearance with Curtis Wright on WAAV/WFNC Radio. The same two topics cropped up as Kokai appeared on the “Insiders” segment for News 14 Carolina’s new “Capital Tonight” program. JLF President John Hood will make his “Capital Tonight” debut in the next week, discussing the problems associated with targeted tax incentives. Hood joined Keith Larson on WBT Radio this week, and he recapped the first Democratic gubernatorial debate during his regular weekly appearance with Bill LuMaye on WPTF Talk Radio. LuMaye also welcomed this week Cato Institute scholar and climatologist Patrick Michaels, who previewed his JLF Shaftesbury Society presentation on the “government-scientific complex.” National Review Online’s “Phi Beta Cons” blog promoted the video of Michaels’ lecture.
