Famous archeologist Joffre Coe was born in Greensboro in 1916. He helped form the Archeological Society of North Carolina. He is best known for his archeological work excavating American Indian sites. In particular, his greatest scholarly contribution was the Town Creek Indian Mound in Montgomery County.
