In the Salisbury Post today this article states that the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Rowan County is going to expand and it comes with a price tag.  A quick note about the Spencer Shops is that it was once the mid-point for Southern Railway’s trains going between Washington and Atlanta, when the railroads used steam power they needed service facilities.  In the 1960s the Dieselization of Southern, the Spencer Shops were not needed.  By the 1970s the Diesel operations were moved to Linwood Yard in Davidson County.  In the late 1970s Southern gave the State of North Carolina the Spencer Shops.
