An advocacy article appears in the local daily. It appears everybody wants to expand Asheville’s transit system, but there are differences of opinion on whether the city should put more money into maintenance or expanded services. Allegations have been alleged that the management company, with which the city contracts to work around union laws, is both unreasonably demanding and negligent, but the city’s Transportation Planning Department does not keep track of complaints. Two city council members interviewed for the article, Julie Mayfield and Gordon Smith, do not want to fund expansion through increased fares.
