It’s a shame NR places no byline on the opening briefs that fill up the first dozen or so pages of its print edition. We don’t know whom to thank for this gem:
Rather than leave students free to choose, the professor of Economics 301 at the University of Chicago assigned seating by alphabet. That put Rose Director and Milton Friedman next to each other. They married in 1938, forming one of the 20th century’s most important intellectual and personal partnerships.
Rose D. Friedman recently died at age 98. Milton Friedman, who died in 2006, would have celebrated his 97th birthday July 31.
