State Rep. Russell Capps proposes that the county lobby for another nuclear reactor from Progress Energy. Capps points out that this would provide a good revenue stream and would lessen the need for tax increase to pay for school growth.
FYI – Carolina Power and Light, the company that owns the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant, paid $12,547,090.75 in taxes last year, making it the county’s top taxpayer.
