I am currently engaged in a work-related project that has introduced me to the curricula offered in a number of colleges and universities. I am dismayed at the lack of physics and math offered and the overabundance of rainbow topics like diversity studies, gender orientation studies, fundraising, climate change, and New Age management. Many college web sites will tell you about their mission statement, their philosophy (hodgepodges of buzzwords), student centers, the college in the news, etc., but academics and research make up only about 5% of the content. There are many universities that sound almost like Jonestown.

If it is of any consolation, the project pertains only to colleges in California. Still, success comes from understanding and accepting reality, not deluding oneself with somebody else’s expensive dreams.
