I had an informative discussion this morning. A young man jokingly asked if I would take his seat in the seventh of eight classes his boss had arranged for the company through state grants. I said I couldn’t, because I was libertarian, and I didn’t want to abuse the taxpayers. He didn’t understand. I explained it was not nice to make the people in Greensboro pay for my education. He corrected me and said the teacher came from Raleigh. I asked where the state got its money. “It’s a grant,” said he. I asked where the government got its grant money, and he said the government makes it. I explained the state got its money from sales taxes and skimmed federal taxes. He thought it was funny when I said the federal government borrowed a lot of its money from China. He then concluded that the program was likely funded with federal funds because it was a state function.
