I received an email from community organizer Mitch Stewart celebrating the response the president received from his last request for people to (1) inform their legislators of their blind support for the president’s healthcare plan and (2) donate to the cause. It states in part:
On Wednesday night President Obama delivered a passionate address on health reform to Congress and all Americans, then immediately wrote to you to ask for your help in making reform a reality.
Your response was astounding: In less than 48 hours, more than 450,000 of you signed messages urging Congress to pass the President’s plan — and even chipped in more than $1 million to power our campaign for change.
I can never remember another president lobbying, campaigning, and fundraising for his politics. Oh, but he’s only the talking head for the DNC’s Organizing for America, which is not supporting any candidates. The email also shares a video in which the president reminds us not to be taken in by scare tactics. You know, the kind that say caps create scarcity, government oversight usually involves policies and personnel, government can outcompete the private sector by adjusting tax rates, regulation comes with costs of compliance, etc. Instead, supporters are to give all we’ve got to present our legislators and the public with the facts. Facts listed by the president for his as yet invisible plan include no one ever again having to worry about losing coverage when they change jobs, no one ever again having to worry about costs spiralling out of control, and no one ever again being denied coverage for pre-existing medical conditions. Doesn’t the president suppose we went far enough in grade school to know phrases containing “always” and “all” are almost always false? Besides, the last cat that pitched a line about, “One soul shall not be lost, . . . wherefore give me thine honor” – never mind. This leads me to believe the president is speaking of places more nether than the former USSR when he reminds us that, “Change does not come from Washington, it comes to Washington.” Regardless, “Now is the time” to obey your president and share the facts about healthcare reform.
