Asheville’s city manager, Gary Jackson, and Councilman Jan Davis went to Pittsburgh to learn about this city. Speaking of the trip three times, Davis mentioned they were learning about a city that went bankrupt. The press has not published anything about the event. A call to the host of this “Inter-City Visit,” the Chamber of Commerce revealed that they are preparing a report that will not be released until after elections. Fortunately, there is no reason to be concerned about one’s local government studying a city that went bankrupt.

In other PC hush-hush, a man was shot in public housing last weekend. This is not unusual. However, many are tying it into local gang activity. Gangs are now all the rage when months ago, the Asheville Police Department denied their existence locally. Unreliable sources claiming inside information say the gangs are a decoy issue, and the police department has more serious internal issues. The only issues that have surfaced are verifiably bogus claims of racism and complaints that perps can only show respect for officers of their skin color and gender. Councilman Dr. Carl Mumpower has been sending Jackson snide emails reminding him that it is council’s job to hold the city manager accountable, and the city manager’s job to make sure the police chief is comporting his department with integrity. In attempts to get officers to squeal off the record, those cornered seem to indicate something big is happening, but they refuse to talk.
