Yuval Levin at NRO’s The Corner reminds us of the optimism of the electorate. He points to a David Brooks column in this morning’s New York Times. As if to demonstrate the disparity of despair on Left and Right, Paul Krugman’s column yesterday complained again about fearmongering Republican presidential candidates.

My one reservation in all of this is Brooks’ line: “[D]on?t propose any program that will interfere with the way voters are currently organizing their lives. They don?t want you there.” Entitlement reform and expanding freedom in health care or education will require such interference, if only to stop the interference already there from current policies.
