The N.C. elections board has voted to refer information about the N.C. Optometric Society’s political action committee to the Wake County District Attorney for criminal investigation.

Violations include: $6,800 in illegal excess contributions to Jim Black in 2002; illegal excess contributions to Michael Decker in 2004; illegal contributions of at least $14,000 made in the name of other individuals; receiving illegal business and corporate contributions of $28,250.

The optometrists’ PAC will be forced to forfeit the $28,250, based on the elections board’s vote.

(Addendum to my earlier post: the Black campaign will forfeit $5,500 based on illegal contributions linked to the video poker industry. The elections board says the Black campaign did not know those contributions were illegal.)
