At a forum earlier this week, Nick Tennyson of the Home Builders Association of Durham, Orange and Chatham Counties had this to say about what’s in Orange County’s future:

“I guess the main message is that the trend in Orange County is away from single-family detached dwellings.

“There has been a series of decisions that have severely limited the amount of land available for development. As that usable property decreases, the price for it goes up. The only way to balance that equation is to have higher density.”

That could mean a greater number of mixed-use developments, he said.

And as land prices go up, Orange County officials continue to talk about the need for affordable housing and implement assistance programs.
