The primary is two weeks away and Orange County’s land transfer tax “education campaign” is about to kick in. You’ll recall the county recently authorized $100,000 in taxpayer funds to be used for this campaign. That’s on top of $10,000 the county had already used on polling about the tax. Here’s how the Herald-Sun describes what we’ll see from the county (emphasis is mine):

The Orange County Board of Commissioners, meanwhile, have created their own committee, the local revenue options advisory task force, to educate the public in what they say is a neutral, strictly educational campaign. But it’s no secret that the board would like to have an alternative source of funding to help fund capital projects without additionally relying on increased property taxes.

The county is spending up to $100,000 on an educational campaign run by Durham-based Ballen Media, which launched a Web site Friday and plans to begin multi-media advertisements and direct mailings this week.
