Could it be that Orange County residents have finally had enough of the commissioner-imposed, sky-high property tax rate — 99.8 cents — and the 20-year-long spend-and-tax cycle that has brought it to 99.8?

Monday night, an estimated 1,200 people showed up in Hillsborough for the “Orange Tax Revolt.” There were so many people that fire officials had to stop allowing folks in the door.

It seems Commission Chairwoman Valerie Foushee still isn’t getting the message:

Valerie Foushee, chairwoman of the Orange County Board of Commissioners, said it was too early to say whether the county could consider spending less money next year than it is spending this year.

“We have to see what the costs of providing certain services are,” she said. “All of us realize that we can’t do business as usual.”

Awesome. What’s more, there’s another way for Orange County conservatives’ voices to be heard on local and state issues. I invite you to join the John Locke Foundation next Tuesday for the kickoff meeting of the Triangle Freedom Club. Details are here.

You’re welcome to be JLF’s guest for one Club meeting. If you like what you see and hear, you can join the Club on site. Benefits depend on the membership level you choose.

Register for Tuesday’s meeting, or join the Club now, by calling 1-866-JLF-INFO. I hope to see you there.
