Gov. Beverly Perdue has consolidated control of North Carolina’s public school establishment under a single new CEO. John Locke Foundation Education Policy Analyst Terry Stoops examined the record of that new CEO, outgoing Cumberland County school superintendent Bill Harrison, in an op-ed published this week in the Wilmington Star-News. Speaking of op-ed articles, a recent News & Observer piece from Research Director and Local Government Analyst Michael Sanera attracted attention from Louisburg’s Franklin Times. A column in that paper highlighted Sanera’s critique of plans for mass transit in the Triangle. On another note, readers of the Historical Marker Database are a little better informed this week, thanks to the work of N.C. History Project Director Troy Kickler. Kickler’s work is cited in information about the historical marker for Willie Jones.
