The News & Observer offered no credit, but its page-one story today on the dubious Citizen Soldier Support Program at UNC-Chapel Hill resembles the September cover story in Carolina Journal from Associate Editor David Bass. On the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Carolina Journal Radio co-host Donna Martinez wrote a Daily Journal column focusing on American virtues and values. The Jefferson Post printed that column a few days later. Meanwhile, the Tryon Daily Bulletin printed a column from Columbus town manager Tim Holloman that highlighted his efforts to boost Columbus’ rating on the John Locke Foundation’s NCTransparency.com Web site. Of an updated town Web site, Holloman writes: “The website is a key facet of the Town’s Transparency Initiative, and visitors will find a tab on the Homepage for the Transparency Initiative. This gives the visitor easy access to documents and reports, which the John Locke Foundation has recommended to be available [to] citizens. The inclusion of this section on our website is a primary factor in the Locke Foundation awarding the Town a “Grade A” for transparency in government.
