Not content to take a break after tax day, several John Locke Foundation staffers are hitting the road for additional public presentations. Terry Stoops spoke one week ago today at two Americans for Prosperity North Carolina news conferences opposing proposed sales tax increases in New Hanover and Onslow counties. Becki Gray travels Saturday to speak at the Hickory Area Reagan Day picnic and rally. Daren Bakst, JLF Director of Legal and Regulatory Studies, addressed the question “Is ObamaCare Unconstitutional?” during a presentation this week to the Pitt County Republican Party. Speaking of ObamaCare, Bakst also released a Spotlight report urging N.C. Attorney General Roy Cooper to rethink his decision not to join a lawsuit challenging the federal health-care reform legislation. Bakst discussed the report during an appearance with Bill LuMaye on WPTF Radio. Cape Fear Business News and the Beaufort Observer published Bakst’s column on the same topic. Meanwhile, the Greenville Daily Reflector interviewed Vice President for Research and Resident Scholar Roy Cordato about sales tax reform and the possible extension of North Carolina’s sales tax to services. In other news, a Washington Examiner column on the dubious dealings associated with federal financial regulation reform quoted JLF Vice President for Communications and Right Angles blogger Jon Ham. Meck Deck blogger Jeff Taylor appeared one week ago on WBTV to critique Mecklenburg County’s continued funding of targeted “business investment grants.” Meanwhile, the News & Observer mentioned the John Locke Foundation in print and on the WakeEd blog in articles discussing a meeting among N&O editors, businessman and philanthropist Art Pope, and John Hood.  The Clemmons Courier recently published a press release associated with the latest By The Numbers report on local government costs.
