People attending Monday’s Yadkin Valley Tea Party meeting in Mocksville heard from a pair of John Locke Foundation speakers. Executive Vice President Kory Swanson discussed JLF principles and values, while Vice President for Outreach Becki Gray discussed taxes and the impact of the federal health-care reform legislation on North Carolina. Meanwhile, communications director Mitch Kokai offered commentary during News 14 Carolina’s coverage Thursday of the televised debate between Cal Cunningham and Elaine Marshall in the race for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination. Kokai discusses the debate again during this evening’s edition of News 14 Carolina’s “Political Connections.” The Greensboro News & Record‘s “Capital Beat” blog cited Piedmont Publius blogger Sam Hieb‘s commentary on a controversial bill involving city-owned broadband cable service. In other news, southeastern North Carolina’s Local News Review highlighted an argument from Daren Bakst that North Carolina should set a moratorium on “matching funds” tied to its taxpayer-financed election campaign system. Bakst believes a recent U.S. Supreme Court order in an Arizona case should prompt action in the Tar Heel State.
