Bend over, please

The Jim Black scandal now shifts to his legislative allies, like state Rep. Thomas Wright. As it should. Black’s pay-to-play regime must be rooted out now and forever.

Wright, a Democrat from Wilmington, has been fighting investigators over his bank records, which underscores the first rule of any scandal: Follow the money. Every single member of the legislature who received money from Jim Black needs to have his or her finances similarly fisked by the authorities.

Invasive? Absolutely. Potentially embarassing? Sadly, yes. But there is really no alternative when the issue is restoring the public’s faith in representative government. Besides, those who took money from Jim Black have had ample opportunity to make clear their disgust and, frankly, their honesty. They have not. Let the fisking begin.

Bonus observation: Does it not chill you to the bone to know that with Wright and the nurse anesthetists we have another example of health care in North Carolina being not shaped, but decided, by who writes the biggest check to a politician?
