Fascinating account of the South Blvd. train over at the Uptown paper of record’s Spanish-language blog. Relates that a train went out of service at one station and went back to the garage, after off-loading passengers at a stop. CMPD officers on the train said that Spanish-speaking passengers did not understand the message to get off, so some stayed on the train as it went out of service.

(Used to happen all the time in DC to tourists on the Metro, BTW.)

The Observer suggests that messages be recorded in both English and Spanish to avoid this situation. Also reported that — gasp! — drunks from Uptown bars were on the train. Shock! That is the whole point of running the train to 1am.

Tipsy college kids and young adults will draw criminals like flies. Again, something we’ll have to work through. Perfectly normal, world-class kinda thing.
