Through his columns, Paul Chesser has developed a reputation as a
writer of thoughtful commentary on media issues. This week, the Raleigh
News & Observer’s Public Editor, Ted Vaden, posted to his online
weblog, the comments Chesser made to him regarding the paper’s
continued use of an unsubstantiated allegation in its reporting about a
Chapel Hill teenager who has admitted killing his parents. Chesser
notes that the new N&O blog appears to be a good way to let the
paper know the good, the bad, and the ugly about its reporting. On
Friday, Chesser participated in a media panel at the Hugh O’Brien Youth
Leadership Seminar at NC State. He spoke to an audience of teenagers on
media and censorship issues.
