Guilford County school board member Garth Hebert says it is more sensible to select a leader from current central office staff to replace outgoing Superintendent Terry Grier.

I’m not sure that’s a good idea. I’ve watched several school board meetings and several presentations from administrative staff and can’t say they’re the most effective communicators. Too much educrat language. I’m not saying they’re not smart people, but the superintendent needs to communicate effectively with the public, something that Grier did not do as much as he could have, in my opinion.

Bonus observation: I’ll present an idea radically different from Garth Hebert’s: How about bringing someone in from the provate business sector to be superintendent of schools? Think about it, it doesn’t take governmental experience to hold other offices, taking into consideration the fact that those offices are part-time and the GCS superintendent is not elected. But by the same token, when you look at the situation City of Greensboro find itself in, it’s clear that years of government experience does not make someone an effective government leader.
