4.2 million people have selected a health insurance plan on Obamacare’s exchanges. Of this total, over 200,000 North Carolinians have selected such federally qualified health plans. The Obama administration’s original goal of getting 7 million individuals to sign up for health coverage in the individual market does not look achievable at this point.
For the 5th month in a row, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has yet to release the most critical enrollment information – how many people count as a true enrollee? (meaning how many people have paid their premium?)

More than half the health insurance policies sold on North Carolina’s exchange were to people who were 45 and older. One out of four North Carolina policies were purchased by young adults from 18 to 34.
Enrolling young and healthy people is important because they generally pay more into the system than they take out, helping offset the health care costs
of older adults. Independent experts say young adults should make up about 40 percent of enrollments to help keep premiums down.
