Polk County saved $17,000 on furniture. They did so by budgeting $100,000 for it and accepting a bid of $83,000 from MacThrift. Then, there’s another $4120 for furniture to be purchased from Sam’s Club, but that doesn’t count because the county can pay for it with sales taxes.

Commissioner Tom Pack did not mind furnishing the new DSS building, but he thought the county could have done so for less. He would have preferred to see county money go toward less “dinged” benefits and pay for employees. Ted Owens agreed with Pack, but the two were outnumbered.
