Tonight at the Buncombe County Commissioners’ meeting, citizen Mike Fryar asked Solid Waste Manager Jerry Mears what the county intended to do about citizens having to pay 42 cents each to dispose of compact fluorescent lightbulbs. Mears explained that the county was collecting them at fire stations and so it didn’t cost anybody anything. After a couple rounds, County Chair David Gantt jumped in as translator and explained that government actions are not free, but come at a cost to taxpayers.
