Huh.

Indy’s 11-year-old downtown arena was something of a model for Charlotte’s very own five-year-old Uptown arena, right down to having the NBA team operate the venue and pocket — or lose — any money associated with that job. Guess what? The Pacers say being in a small market means that they lose $15m. a year. The team wants the city to pick up that cost or — they say good-bye to Indy.

The city says it is short of money already despite a hotel-motel tax hike and a financial tax district stuffing tax dollars into the convention center/destination location deal.
