Marty Hurney will make or break the Panthers season here in the next few weeks. I’m worried about a break.

Giving max tender offers to Thomas Davis and Matt Moore but not to Richard Marshall pretty much guarantees that Marshall will get big offers from other teams. It would be a bargain to get a sure-fire, proven starting CB for just a 2nd rounder and at, say, $3m. a year — or double the one-year deal the Panthers have on the table for Marshall.

Maybe the Panthers plan on matching any offer Marshall may get, but that is a dangerous game to play. All I know is that top-flight corners are hard to find and for stretches last season Marshall was the most effective defender on the field behind Jon Beason.
