The Golden Domers are out in full force, braying for the Panthers to do whatever they can to get into position to draft ND QB Jimmy Clausen. What a mistake that would be.

First off, you would completely undermine QB Matt Moore and ignite a QB war from Day One. Not smart. Two, Clausen was not all that impressive at ND despite his physical gifts. He often put up big numbers playing from behind, sometimes against inferior talent that Clausen could not lead the Irish past. In short, I see much more Ryan Leaf in the guy than Joe Montana.

Besides, WR is much more an area of need for the Panthers. But I don’t think a pick there fits the Foxy-Marty mindset. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that they’ve targeted DL help with their first pick of the draft, thinking that so long as they can stop the run and run the ball Matt Moore won’t have to force balls playing from behind.

Carolina would probably have to move up to get a shot at either Sergio Kindle (Texas) or Carlos Dunlap (Florida), but could probably stand pat at this point for Everson Griffen (USC) or Brian Price (UCLA). DT Linval Joseph (ECU) has already gotten some run as a the possible pick, but F-M really prefer big BCS school products and Joseph’s 6-4 330 frame is more of a plugger than DC Ron Meeks usually likes.
