Boy, those Vikings are a strange lot. They’ve benched starter Tarvaris Jackson in favor of the 15-year vet who didn’t get off the bench the past two years as a Rams backup during Panther thumpings in both Charlotte and St. Louis.
But the masochists out there will remember that the Panthers made Frerotte look like Johnny Unitas in 2005 when the Fins notched a 27-24 win over the Panthers. That game wasted one of Steve Smith’s best performances — 11 balls for 170 yards and 3 TDs — and probably kept the Panthers from hosting a playoff game that year with 12 wins.
Frerotte also guided the Redskins to a 24-10 win over the Panthers in Charlotte to start the 1997 season. You know, back when we still had the Hornets and before then was even a half-cent transit tax. Gus is old.
