Evergreen is now installing the $50 million upgrades required by federal emissions regulations. It is not alone in its punishment for helping the coal industry. The EPA “estimates” 1000 boilers nationwide are guilty. Since Evergreen would have gone out of business otherwise, the kindly taxpayers had to make a “choice” as to whether they preferred paper or coal. They must have preferred paper, because they contributed $12 million to sock it to the coal peeps. Remember, coal miners don’t have jobs; if they did, we would have to subtract them for this economic impact analysis.
