Yesterday a parent told me he is very concerned about how his young son is being taught math under the new Common Core approach. He is so concerned that his child will not understand how to add and subtract that he contacted the school. He was told this is how Common Core works. He is yet another parent who now understands why there are so many questions.

Dr. Terry Stoops, John Locke Foundation director of research and education studies, explains why he’s recommending two new permanent commissions to study changing or replacing Common Core public school standards in North Carolina. Stoops’ comments are tied to the report Common Core State Standards: The way forward.
