Or the good, the bad, and the ugly of US Airways’ recent longhaul route expansion from CLT. You’ll recall that CLT has long had nonstops to London-Gatwick and Frankfurt. And Lufthansa has offered CLT-Munich service for about five years now as well. Over the last year though, US Airways has added four new destinations that are far away:

• Summer daily seasonal service to Paris, now back for its second summer
• Year-round daily service to Rio, which began in December
• Year-round daily service to Honolulu, which also began in December
• And beginning next month, year-round daily service to Rome

Or at least that was the plan. The Paris flight is now listed as operating year-round, thought at a reduced frequency over the winter (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Sundays). Rome, as we predicted and a month before the route is to begin, is now no longer scheduled to operate daily over the winter. It’s currently listed as three times a week from November on (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays). Of course, it’s still a ways until the airline completely firms up its winter schedule, so more changes are possible.

As for Honolulu, nonstop service from CLT ends on September 7.
