The Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation announced yesterday it is revising its route system. Service on lower-performing routes will be reduced, while service on higher-performing routes to Asheboro and Mt. Airy will be increased. Fares will also increase slightly.

Fair enough. According to the N&R, director Brent McKinney said the “restructuring is not a sign PART is faltering in its mission to provide useful customer service from outlying areas to the region’s urban core.”

Still, what to make of PART’s plans to press ahead with plans for its new $20 million headquarters?

All I know is I’ve never seen a PART bus —- and I’ve seen them all around —with more than two riders.
