Asheville will be getting a new abortion clinic soon. A long article on the subject was published in the local daily, and 570AM WWNC drive-time host Pete Kaliner recently devoted a segment to the topic. The debate is worn out. People who think life is sacred do not approve of killing fetuses, and they do not want to have to pay for the practice. They argue families are ordained of an infinitely wise God, and there is an order of operations prescribed to help the conceived have the opportunity to reach their divine potential. Abortions may be called for in extenuating circumstances, but they should not be a corner convenience for girls who, say, won’t fit into their prom dresses.

The flip-side says that is nonsense. Girls have to get pregnant with or without marriage, because that is what females in the animal kingdom do. Women’s health is defined as the right to force others to pay for abortions. Evil, white tychoons want to oppress women by not cooperating. Women used to die of infection from coat-hanger abortions in alleys before abortion was legalized. But now that it is, it should not be subject to the same level of regulations as other clinical services in the state, or any other activity for that matter. Those pro-choice for the wolves before the sheep are old enough vote on dinner are correct in observing that legislators are trying to shut down abortion mills. For example, Asheville’s last abortion clinic was shut down for having defective oxygen delivery systems, unsanitary floors, etc.
