I must second Jon’s suggestion that you read Peggy Noonan’s column today.

A difference between the two that she doesn’t explore is this: Whereas Hillary is so eager to win that she will say anything to avoid possibly alienating any voter, Thatcher told people just where she stood. She would take a position and argue for it. Hillary — and most of the other candidates — are all about clever formulations and focus-group tested sound bites intended to sound good but dodge and weave all around the issue.

Noonan argues that Hillary’s whiney “stop bashing me” style (precisely what the White House’s line when criticisms were lodged against her massive health care initiative in 1993) might have backfired on her. Good. Now what would be really wonderful would be if the evasive style of campaign blather came into similar disrepute.
